Established in 1998 we provide a range of training services to employers large and small. We offer informative advice and guidance on all aspects of training and employee development. We contract with The Skills Funding Agency to deliver apprenticeships to the engineeering and manufacturing sectors.
We also support young people in their quest to secure apprenticeships with employers through our vacancy matching services.

Meet the Team
Paul Kendall – Managing Director
Paul trained as an engineer in the power supply industry transferring to the private sector where he subsequently became Company Training Manager for an international telecommunications company. Paul is the owner of The EDF Ltd and is responsible for the day to day direction of the business. He is also an NVQ assessor and internal verifier. Paul is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Management.
John Barton - Assessor and Internal Verifier/Forklift Trainer
John started his career in hand-building furniture and fitting carpets. He moved into the food industry then on to pharmaceuticals where he spent in excess of 10 years in production, packaging and warehousing holding various posts including dispensary and warehouse manager. In January 1988 he became self employed as a Lift Truck Instructor and Examiner. He is contracted by the EDF to run Forklift Training Programmes and assess and internally verify NVQ’s in the fields of his working disciplines.
Martin Roebuck – Assessor and Internal Verifier
Martin trained as a technician engineer with extensive experience of drawing office environments. He moved his career to work with EITB (EnTra) after which time he commenced a training consultancy providing expert knowledge to other training providers and British Areospace. Martin is Project Manager for our delivery at the Camelia Botnar Foundation. Martin played a key role in the establishment of The EDF Ltd.
Tony Candler - Assessor and Quality Co-ordinator
Tony has spent the majority of his working life in the motor retail industry achieving dealer management positions for prestigious motor manufacturers. In the late eighties Tony commenced working for himself as a management and training consultant specialising in the sales and marketing. Tony brings to the EDF a broad range of skills, which, he reflects through the courses, and consultancy he undertakes on our behalf. He is also the Quality Management Co-ordinator for the EDF.
Brian Streeter - Assessor and Careers Consultant
Employed by West Sussex Careers Service from1974 until 1999 and worked in a variety of areas including Worthing, Haywards Heath and Crawley, involved with providing a service to School and College leavers and having close links with local employers. Between 1989 and 1992 was seconded to the DTI to be responsible for setting up the Teacher’s Placement Service in East Sussex under the Government’s Education and Industry Initiative. Brian fronts all school and recruitment matters for The EDF Ltd and is a Key Skills coach and assessor.
Des Jenner - Assessor
Des Jenner has spent his previous seven years before joining us as a Lecturer in Welding, Fabrication and Blacksmithing at a large Sussex College of Further Education. He is an Assessor for the delivery of NVQ’s. Des is also currently studying for an MSC in Combined Studies and Education.
Paul Flaherty - Assessor
Paul is a veteran of the Senior Service – 23 years in The Royal Navy, specifically the Fleet Air Arm where he was an aircraft engineer. He served all over the world. He has also twice been a member of the Fleet Air Arm field gun crew in the Royal Tournament at Earl’s Court. Paul’s was the winning crew in 1991. After leaving the Navy, Paul spent ten years as an electrical installation engineer. Paul is our Key Skills coach and assessor for our Trend BMS Engineers.
Tara Kendall-Sykes
Tara trained for two years in horticulture and then went on to study business studies and secretarial skills. She has also qualified as an Electrical Installation Engineer and PAT tester. She has mostly worked in an office environment in the customer services field. Her last job was as Team Leader for two years and supervised a team of eight. She joined the EDF in January 2003 as Administration Co-ordinator taking on further responsibility as Assessment Centre Co-ordinator.
Sally McClarnon
Sally started with us at the beginning of March 2010. Sally has been employed to assist Tara in the general day to day running of the office. Having come from working in a busy pub restaurant where she was always on her feet rushing around, this must have been a bit of a culture shock but she has fitted in perfectly.
At home Sally is married with two teenagers; Greg and Lara who keep her on her toes. Sally interests include spending time with her young nieces, watching movies, cooking for her family and reading a good book.
Katharine Sawyer
Kath has been working behind the scenes at The EDF for some time actively involved in time consuming business of converting NVQ unit information into electronic format for our candidates using the SkilSure E-Porfolio system. Additionally Kath is a bit of an Excel "geek" and is very involved in structuring our Learner Acheivement Recording system. Kath is Sally's younger sister and is married to Craig who is The EDF webmaster. They have two young children Daisy and Milly along with a dog called Charlie and a cat called Bob. Kath has also been Tara's best mate since they were sweet 16!
